President Donald Trump announces from the White House on Wednesday that the U.S. now recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Re: “,” Dec. 6 news story.

President Donald Trump’s statement on Jerusalem stands with President Harry S. Truman’s recognition of Israel as one of the two most significant statements ever made by any U.S. president regarding the future of the Jewish state.

Palestinian and Muslim fury reflects both the understanding that their hope of destroying the Jewish state is now more remote and that it is not only Muslim theological claims that are honored above all others.

Once Jerusalem is recognized as the capital of Israel, the Jewish claim to their ancient homeland is solidified. Israel has proved a worthy guardian of the city, for only under Israeli rule have all religions had unrestricted access and control of their holy sites.
