Castle Rock police shoot armed person while responding to reports of someone in distress

The wounded person has non-life threatening injuries

Castle Rock police officers shot an armed person Sunday afternoon while responding to reports of someone in distress, officials said.

KerriAnne Mukhopadhyay, a spokeswoman for the town of Castle Rock, said officers were called to the 1300 block of South Sierra Drive just before 3 p.m. on reports of a suicidal person.

“The suspect came out … with a gun,” she said. “That’s when officers were forced to fire shots.”

Mukhopadhyay said the wounded person has wounds that were not life-threatening She did not know how many officers were involved.

Mukhopadhyay said an investigation into the shooting is in its early stages.

Further details were not immediately released.
