Re: “Andrew Johnson is no longer the worst president in U.S. history,” Dec. 13 George F. Will column.

Andrew Johnson became our 17th president when President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.  His actions, among others, to prevent former slaves from exercising their constitutional rights got him impeached by the House of Representatives. The U.S. Senate nearly convicted him.

The most intelligent, articulate conservative columnist of our day writes that President Donald Trump has already rescued Johnson “from the ignominy of ranking as the nation’s worst president.” I agree with George F. Will this time, and if he is right, we should prepare for the possibility of a Senate conviction and a Pence presidency.
