Re: “Boulder panel recommends open space electric bike ban and new drone rules,” Dec. 25 news story.
According to your article, Boulder County is considering a ban on electric bicycles from most of the county’s parks and open space trails.
Why would anyone ban the use of electric bikes? Are we banning electric cars and solar panels next?
For the last year, I have commuted to school (I teach seventh grade) on a pedal-assist electric bike which is limited to 19 mph. I have ridden a total of 2,000 miles, respectfully, through both a city and a county park on my route. After suffering a torn ACL at over 50 years old, this was an incredible way to rehab. If I was banned from my ride, I would be filing an A.D.A. complaint.
These bans penalize people with disabilities and the elderly, who could be enjoying bicycling and parks again, and reduce the number of cars on the road.
