Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, speaks on the floor of the General Assembly on Dec. 21. The U.N. voted 128-9 against President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, largely ignoring his threats to cut off aid to any country that went against him.

Re: “U.N. rejects Trump move,” Dec. 22 news story.

Finally, good news. The United Nations membership voted to reject the Trump administration’s declaration to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. I salute all of the independent nations that collectively ignored the threats of Donald Trump and Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. It is encouraging to see those who stand for common sense and stability in the Middle East. A two-state solution is the only acceptable way to proceed. Why Trump felt his bombastic pronouncement would be accepted is obvious. In his mind he is actually a world leader, admired and held in regard. The fact is, the planet has been shaking its head in wonder at the stupid Americans, who somehow managed to elect the opposite of a president.

Nikki Haley told the United Nations that the American people want the capital of Israel to be Jerusalem. This is not true. The majority of American people do not want this. We want peace in the region and a two-state solution. We want peace on Earth.
