A man who shot himself in the head following a road rage incident in Greeley that led to a police pursuit has died from his injuries.
Greeley Police Department announced Friday morning that Matthew McClure died about 5 a.m.
McClure was seen by police speeding northbound on U.S. 85 in a pickup truck shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday, Greeley Police Sgt. J.P. Tymkowych said in a statement.
Another driver contacted police to report that the pickup driver had been chasing him and firing shots.
The pickup truck passed another Greeley Police officer near 2nd Street and 9th Avenue, sparking a short pursuit that ended in the pickup truck rear-ending one vehicle on 8th Avenue and colliding with another going in the opposite direction.
The driver got out of the truck and walked towards police with a handgun to his head and pulled the trigger about 20 yards from officers.
McClure and the occupants of the other cars involved in the crash were taken to Northern Colorado Medical Center for treatment. Additional information about the others injured will be released later Friday, Tymkowych said.
