A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for a Commerce City murder.
Deshawn Anthony Benain was sentenced Wednesday in Adams County District Court for the January 2017 murder of 21-year-old Sydney Lynn Lewis, according to the district attorney’s office.
Commerce City police responding to a 911 call on Jan. 23 found Lewis’ body behind a trash bin at 5025 E. 56th Ave., according to a news release. Her body was covered in cardboard and plastic wrap; her hands and feet were bound with electrical tape.
Surveillance cameras at the scene recorded Benain’s vehicle. He ultimately admitted killing Lewis, prosecutors said.
The autopsy report on Lewis said her death was a homicide by unspecified means, most likely by asphyxiation or strangulation. She also suffered other cuts, bruises and trauma to her body.
