What’s coming to Denver Friday and the weekend will be a classic example of how fast weather can change along the front range of the Rocky Mountains.
A 31-year-old heat record could go down Friday, but snow and freezing temperatures are just around the corner.
The National Weather Service predicts a record of 69 degrees Friday in Denver, beating a 1986 record of 68 degrees.
A southwest breeze gusting to 21 mph is forecast for Friday.
There will be a wind change Saturday. Strong northeasterly winds will bring a storm that virtually guarantees snow late Saturday and Sunday. Four to 6 inches of snow is expected in Denver over the weekend.
The mountains could get anywhere from 6 to 14 inches of snow, the weather service says.
The snow will continue through Sunday morning and should end around 2 p.m., the weather service says. Expect blustery conditions with a low of 14 degrees Sunday night.
Sunshine is expected to return Monday through Thursday with highs in the low- to mid-40s, the weather service says.
