Gilpin County deputies were taking information about an SUV stolen from the Coyote Hotel Wednesday morning near Black Hawk when they discovered a dead body on the parking lot, authorities say.

So far investigators are treating the car theft and the body discovery as two separate incidents, said Cherokee Blake, spokeswoman for the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Department.

The Gilpin County Coroner’s Office will determine what killed the man, Blake said.

Authorities in Jefferson County discovered the green Ford Excursion with Arizona plates stolen from the hotel abandoned on Swede Gulch Road just south of Silver Rock Lane.

The suspect then allegedly stole a gray 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck. The vehicle thief has not been caught, Blake said. The license plate of the stolen truck is COD084.
