Re: “Reauthorize Colorado’s lottery division,” Jan. 18 editorial.
I couldn’t agree more with your editorial in support of reauthorizing the Colorado lottery division. Funding from our lottery is paramount to conserving Colorado’s amazing and diverse landscapes and to supporting our quality of life. Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) has invested in protecting our most iconic landscapes across the state — from the Yampa Valley to the San Luis Valley to the Eastern Plains — for wildlife, ranching and recreation.
Protecting these lands also provides tremendous benefit to local economies. According to a recent study by The Trust for Public Land, GOCO supports 11,800 jobs and contributes to the $392 million in annual resident spending on sporting goods.
Colorado is an outdoor mecca and having a way to protect our lands will ensure this legacy for future generations.
I urge the legislature to reauthorize our lottery and continue to fund incredible conservation projects around the state.
