Castle Rock is considering lifting its ban on pit bulls, which has been in place for more then 25 years.
Denver Post file
Castle Rock officials voted Tuesday night to end the town's 26-year pit bull ban.

Re: “Pit bull bans are still justified,” Jan. 29 editorial.

I am saddened by the use of statistics in this editorial, but not surprised. The editorial failed to note that “pit bulls” (which includes American bulldogs) are more likely to be abused, mistreated, taught or encouraged to fight, purchased by immature owners, and taught aggressive behaviors by their owners. Thus, the reason these dogs are more likely to be aggressive than others is that they are actually good dogs that listen well and want to please their owners. Outlawing these dogs only encourages this behavior because it reinforces the reputation that certain dog owners seek.

If someone wrote an article making the point that Castle Rock should ban all guns because all gun deaths are caused by guns, would that article be well-received in Colorado?
