NBC’s Super Bowl commercial starring Lindsey Vonn starts with a shot of her at the top of Copper Mountain with a panorama of peaks in Summit County’s Tenmile Range in the background, and it includes two of her most memorable crashes along with moments of glory for the most successful female ski racer of all time.
One of a series of 60-second ads the network will air to promote the PyeongChang Olympics, the promo shows her skiing as a little girl and segues to shots of her racing on the World Cup, followed by a shot of her crashing in downhill training at the 2006 Turin Olympics and in the super-G at the 2013 world championships, both of which led to her evacuation from the mountain by helicopter. The 2013 crash tore up her right knee, and a subsequent re-injury of that knee while training at Copper Mountain nine months later caused her to miss the 2014 Olympics.
Set to the music of “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys, the commercial also shows her working out, posing for glamour shots, flying over the final jump in sight of the finish area at the 2010 Olympics where she won the gold medal in downhill and then shouting for joy after crossing the finish line.
