Lauren Gibbs, Denver
Specialty: Two-woman bobsled
Age: 33
Gibbs was a 30-year-old regional sales director for a men’s apparel company in Denver in the summer of 2014, working out at Front Range CrossFit, when Denver’s Jillion Potter encouraged her to consider bobsled. Potter, an Olympian in rugby at the 2016 Rio Games, knew bobsled pilot Elana Meyers Taylor because she had tried to recruit Meyers Taylor for rugby. Potter was impressed by the strength and explosiveness Gibbs showed in the gym and thought she could be good at bobsled. Gibbs thought Potter was “crazy” but went to a bobsled combine in Colorado Springs that summer, passed that test and went to a driving school at Lake Placid three weeks later. She’s been a bobsledder ever since. She has three podium finishes this season on the World Cup, two with Meyers Taylor and one with Jamie Greubel. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 world championships with Meyers Taylor. Originally from Los Angeles, Gibbs was recruited to run track for Brown University but played volleyball instead.
