Re: “Cuts, layoffs loom at Colorado community health centers as Congress stalls on funding renewal,” Jan. 26 news story.

I spent 13 years at Denver Health Medical Center as a clinic nurse and manager. I can attest that community health centers (CHC) provide quality health care, regardless of insurance type, to the community while optimizing limited resources.

Not funding CHCs is shortsighted. Are people ready for longer waits in ERs while paying the bill for those who are unable to afford it? CHCs care for their “sick” patients in clinics to avoid ERs. CHCs not only care for children but the growing aging population. Do people know how few private providers accept Medicare?

Elected officials should be working on improving access to affordable health care for everyone. As Americans, we cannot afford to move backward.Letap truly make America great again and fund our community health centers.
