A 40-year-old man who was convicted Tuesday of killing his ex-mistress and stashing her body in a storage unit was immediately sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.
James Takchuan Woo was convicted in the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Julie Tureson. A jury found Woo guilty of first-degree murder after only about 18 minutes of deliberation in what 4th Judicial District Attorney Dan May called the quickest homicide verdict he’s ever seen.
Woo’s attorneys include Jose Baez, who won acquittals for Florida mother Casey Anthony and ex-NFL player Aaron Hernandez in their murder trials.
On April 22, 2016, Tureson’s body was found handcuffed to the interior of her car’s passenger door inside a Platte Avenue storage unit that Woo had rented almost two weeks earlier. She was covered in baking soda and surrounded with vats of a sweet-smelling liquid that prosecutors say was Woo’s attempt at hiding the odor of her corpse.
