Re: “As relentless flu season continues to worsen, hospital visits are now at levels equal to 2009 swine flu,” Feb. 9 news story.
The flu season this year has been particularly bad. Do you still need to get a flu shot? Absolutely.
As local pediatricians, we’ve seen lots of flu this year. For most people, the vaccine will prevent the flu, but for those who get it despite the vaccine, it will be less severe. That means fewer school days missed and less chance of ending up in the hospital. For children with medical conditions where they can’t get the vaccine, you protect them by getting the shot yourself because it leads to less of the virus in the community.
Itap not too late in the season to get your vaccine — it’s helpful to get your shot through May. Go to or your doctor to find out where to get your flu shot. Letap protect Colorado’s children and families.
