Pedestrian hit by car, southbound Tower Road closed near Denver airport

Man was struck by a car driving south as he attempted to cross Tower midblock, police say

Traffic on southbound Tower Road near the hotel zone by Denver International Airport is shut down after a pedestrian was struck by a car near East 69th Avenue.

Denver police warned of the accident in a tweet around 6:30 a.m. and advised travelers to find an alternate route. At 8:15 a.m., traffic was still shut down at East 71st Avenue, police spokesman Doug Schepman said.

The collision occurred just after 6 a.m. when an adult male attempted to cross Tower in the middle of the block. The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Schepman said the driver remained on the scene.
