Excited visitors to the got to meet Aspen the sloth at a special meet and greet on February 25 during Sloth Weekend, and even take a “slothie” (that’s a sloth selfie).
The aquarium offers the event to the first 100 people in line each day during the special weekend. Many people turned up before dawn to get in line, with one teenager and his mother setting up camp at 11 p.m. the night before to make sure to be first.
The guest of honor was Aspen, a 7-year-old Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth. These animals can live 10-15 years in the wild and sometimes up to 40 years in captivity. They live predominantly in rainforest regions of the world in South America. They are found in Venezuela, the Guyanas, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil north of the Amazon River.
