
Re: “Colorado GOP to select ex-Rep. Steve Lebsock’s replacement following his last-minute party switch before being expelled,” March 9 news story.
In reference to former state Rep. Steve Lebsock’s open House seat, Colorado Democratic Party Chair Morgan Carroll said that “this seat belongs to voters.” I couldn’t agree more. It’s therefore time to get rid of the un-democratic good old boy networks known as vacancy committees. Using party mechanisms to determine who will represent a diverse swath of voters is a disservice to the people of Colorado. Voters elect individuals, not political parties. Why then are the parties allowed to choose the individuals to lead the people?
