A woman, the owner of a grocery store in Aurora, was shot by a robber Friday and a “good Samaritan” then shot the robber, police said.

The robbery and shootings happened at about 2:10 p.m. at the Village East Grocery Store, 1161 S. Peoria St., according to police.

Officers arrived on scene and found the store owner, suffering from a gun shot wound, in the parking lot. She was taken to a local hospital where she remained Friday night in serious but stable condition.

During the robbery and shooting investigation officers determined that a “good Samaritan confronted the robbery suspect outside of the grocery store and the Good Samaritan shot the suspect,” a news release said.

The suspect fled and a short time later officers found a wounded man in the area of South Joliet Street and East Garden Drive.

The wounded man is the “robbery and shooting suspect who had fled from the area of the grocery store,” police said. He was placed in custody and taken to a local hospital. The incidents remain under investigation.
