Fatal shooting victim in west Denver identified as a teenager

A teenager who was fatally shot in west Denver on Saturday night has been identified.

Ty Martinez, 17, of Denver, was taken by ambulance to Denver Health medical center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Martinez died of a gunshot wound.

The shooting happened about 6:55 p.m. at the intersection of West Colfax Avenue and Lowell Boulevard.

Police said Martinez was driving a silver sedan and appeared to be fleeing from the driver of a small, black sedan with tinted windows when the shooting took place. The sedan driven by Martinez crashed into a building after he was shot.

An investigation is ongoing, and the shooter remains at large.
