Colorado State has suffered its first player departure since the resignation of head coach Larry Eustachy.

Kris Martin — an Oral Roberts transfer who sat out last season per NCAA rules — announced Monday on Twitter that he received a full release from CSU. He wrote: “I would like to thank the team, fans, and the school for the support and love shown this year. I am very grateful for the opportunity and will continue my college career at another university.”

Martin (6-6, 180) never played in a game for CSU, but he was expected to immediately contribute next season. At ORU, Martin appeared in 59 games with 37 starts over two seasons. He scored in double-digits 30 times and shot 37.9 percent from 3-point range.

CSU hired Niko Medved, a former Rams assistant, as its new head men’s basketball coach last week. The entire team was in attendance for Medved’s introductory press conference, but it’s possible Martin will not be the only player to transfer out. Honorable mention All-Mountain West center Nico Carvacho has also received permission to contact other schools, with the possibility of returning to CSU still an option.
