A man suspected of fatally shooting four people at a Waffle House restaurant in Tennessee and who was arrested Monday after hiding for more than 24 hours has ties to Colorado.
Travis Reinking, 29, was interviewed by a Salida newspaper for a “Word on the Street” column in January 2017, and when arrested last July in Washington D.C. for an incident outside the White House, he carried a Colorado driver’s license.
In the brief , Reinking, along with several other people that day, answered the question: “What makes you happy?”
His answer, according to the newspaper, was: “True love. Just because itap the best thing that can happen in life.”
Reinking, at the time, told Guinne Stropes of the Mountain Mail that he resided in Salida.
In the July 7 incident at a pedestrian entrance on Pennsylvania Avenue, Reinking told security that he “must get into” the White House and insisted on speaking to the president. Instructed on how to be part of a public tour, Reinking said that he “was a sovereign citizen and has a right to inspect the grounds,” according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.
Reinking then removed his tie, balled it into his fist and walked past security barriers toward an officer.
“Do what you need to do. Arrest me if you have to,” he said, according to the report. Reinking then again refused instructions to leave the area. He was handcuffed and arrested.
Reinking, armed with an AR-15 assault rifle, and naked except for a coat, attacked the Nashville restaurant just after 3 a.m. Sunday, according to police. After killing four and injuring four others, Reinking allegedly fled. He was arrested Monday, without further incident, near his apartment during a massive manhunt.
He was carrying a black backpack with a silver semi-automatic weapon and .45-caliber ammunition when taken into custody, Nashville police said.
Reinking has no arrest record in Colorado.
