The Aurora Police Department will not release the full video of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s son threatening to get a cop fired during a traffic stop, citing an internal affairs investigation into how portions of the tape had been leaked to the media.

On March 23, 22-year-old Jordan Hancock was pulled over by an Aurora officer for driving 65 mph in a 40 mph zone. In a video leaked anonymously to , Jordan Hancock cursed at the officer, using a homophobic slur, and threatened to get him fired.

“Every day, our officers interact with individuals of varying emotions,” Aurora police Chief Nick Metz said in a Facebook post Tuesday night. “Unfortunately, there are those times when our officers are treated poorly. I am constantly reminded of and impressed by the professionalism our officers demonstrate during these situations, and I appreciate the work they do each and every day despite these encounters.”

The police department initially denied requests to release the body camera footage, saying the case was pending before a municipal court, Metz wrote. The case was resolved Monday.

Metz said the decision not to release the video was not influenced by Hancock’s office or that of any Denver official.

Metz was clear that the internal investigation was not centered around the officer’s interaction with Jordan Hancock, noting that the officer was in compliance with department policy.

“It remains of great concern to the Department that the video was released without departmental authorization,” he wrote.
