Perhaps no team in Major League Baseball was swinging the bat as well as the Angels enteringTuesdaynight. They had won five of their last six games and were averaging 8.6 runs and 12.8 hits over their last five contests. That endedTuesdaynight, when the Rockies halted the Halos by winning their sixth in a row, 4-2.

A day off didn’t seem to faze the Rockies’ starting pitching, which as we mentioned yesterday, has been lights-out over the last 11 games enteringTuesday, averaging 1.2 runs against and 6.3 strikeouts. AndTuesday, those stretch numbers improved (1.08 earned runs against and 6.42 strikeouts) as Jon Gray was again dominant, inching his way closer to be re-crowned the ace of Colorado’s staff.

In Gray’s three starts since since April 25, which account for three of his four victories this season, he has pitched 20 innings, watched his ERA plummet from 7.09 to 4.24 and struck out 25 batters. The only run he’s allowed was a solo shot to the Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo.

There’s not a pitcher on the Rockies’ staff who isn’t pitching like an all-star right now. Today, it’s Tyler Anderson’s chance to keep his record perfect.
