A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an arson where a burning barn killed six horses and a dog.
Earnest Sunday Maynes is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on three counts of first-degree arson, five counts of second-degree arson, criminal mischief and six counts of cruelty to animals-aggravated, according to a news release from the Lakewood Police Department. He also faces three counts of being a habitual criminal, which is a sentence enhancer prosecutors can use to argue for more time in prison.
No bond has been set.
Maynes was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of West Virginia Avenue by Denver Police Department officers.
On April 28, West Metro Fire Protection District firefighters were called to a string of suspicious blazes along Sheridan Boulevard.
The first fire was set in a dumpster and pile of tires near Fourth Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard, according to previous reports. Shortly after firefighters responded to that call, they were dispatched to a burning barn near the 5400 block of West Third Avenue.
A third fire was reported at 22nd Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard soon after the barn fire.
