Getting your player ready...

Back when Peyton Manning was their quarterback, Broncos receivers would travel to the Duke University campus in North Carolina for pre-training camp workouts. This summer, Case Keenum is expected to host his new teammates in Houston.

Receiver Demaryius Thomas revealed Keenum’s plan after Tuesday’s organized team activity workout at Dove Valley.

“Thatap big for us,” Thomas said. “Itap going to be the receivers and quarterbacks and hopefully some tight ends and running backs, too.”

Quarterback-skill position player workouts have become common in the NFL in general and the Broncos in particular. Last July, Philadelphia quarterback Carson Wentz welcomed teammates to his home state of North Dakota. Last month, New England quarterback Tom Brady reportedly invited receiver Julian Edelman and tight end Rob Gronkowski to his off-season home in Montana.

Thomas knows who will be throwing him the football Sept. 9 against Seattle, a departure since Manning retired.

“You don’t have to worry about getting reps with multiple guys,” Thomas said. “Your focus is on getting reps with Case and only Case and to help build that connection.”

Veldheer on rehabilitation. Projected starting right tackle Jared Veldheer continues to be held out of OTAs as he recovers from a cracked ankle suffered in December while playing with Arizona. When will Veldheer — a 6-foot-8, 321-pound, ninth-year pro — be ready to play?

“That’s up to the training staff and the coaches,” Veldheer said. “I’m always wanting to (play). When I came into the meeting with the docs after I broke my (ankle), I asked if I could just finish out the season. There’s an artery that goes through that bone, though, so it wasn’t a good idea to do that.”

Veldheer missed the Cardinals’ last three games and was traded to the Broncos.

Also not practicing Tuesday were guard Ron Leary (knee), tight end Troy Fumagalli (sports hernia), receiver Jordan Taylor (hips), defensive lineman Clinton McDonald (shoulder) and cornerback Bradley Roby (illness). Roby was the only addition to last week’s injury report.

Staff writer Kyle Fredrickson contributed to this story.

“I never quarrel with a man who buys ink by the barrel,” former Indiana Rep. Charles Brownson said of the press. But we need your help to keep up with the rising cost of ink.
