Great Sand Dunes and Mesa Verde national parks are not only some of the best spots in Colorado, but they’re also some of the top destinations in the world — according to kids, at least.
TIME for Kids listed both parks in its 2019 list of the after soliciting nominations from its kid reporters and young readers. Editors then selected the final 50 based on various factors, including quality, originality, sustainability and accessibility.
What’s the draw of each spot?
“Want to hit the slopes during the summer? Try Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve,” the , continuing on to admire its 750-foot dunes, the and clear skies for Milky Way viewing.
, on the other hand, gives kids the opportunity to go back in time with its nearly 5,000 archaeological sites that were once home to more than 100 ancestral Pueblo people.
