
CINCINNATI — Looking to add some punch to their offense, the Rockies on Tuesday recalledoutfielder Mike Tauchman from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned infielder Daniel Castro to Triple-A.
Tauchman,27, is making his second stint on the Rockies’ active roster after being optioned to Triple-A onApril 22. He opened the season poorly, batting 1-for-23 with two runs, three walks and 11 strikeouts over 15 games (five starts).
But he’s raked at Triple-A, batting .385 (60-for-156) with 37 runs, 12 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 35 RBIs. Tuesday, he was named the Pacific Coast League player of the month for May, leading the PCL with 44 hits, 31 runs scored and 81 total bases, and finishing second with a .379 batting average and a 1.125 OPS.
Castro, 25, went 8-for-46 (.174) with two runs, one home run, one double and six RBIs in his first big-league stint with the Rockies.
