On April 2, Davis attacked the teen at the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center. Davis, a coach of the Broomfield Thunder softball team, had picked up the girl at her home, took her to a Target to buy a swimsuit and took her to the rec center, where he attacked the victim in the shower of a family changing room, according to a news release.

Sarah Stout, deputy district attorney, told the court Davis had groomed the girl to trust him as a mentor in her life. He arranged to get her alone without her parents’ knowledge at the recreation center and assaulted her, the release said.

In rejecting a probation sentence, Adams County District Judge Mark Warner said Davis’ conduct was a major betrayal of trust for the victim and her family.
