Arvada’s new chief of police will come from within the department’s ranks.

The city announced Friday that it has selected two finalists for the position: Ed Brady, the current interim chief; and Link Strate, current deputy chief.

A national search was conducted to fill the position previously held by Chief Don Wick, who retired in December after 32 years of service.

A field of 40 applicants was narrowed to eight, before whittling down to Brady and Strate.

“The finalists will attend interviews and a reception over the course of two days at the end of June,” according to a Friday afternoon news release. The city, in the release, did not say how much money was spent on the recruitment process.

An interview panel will be made up of community members, board and commission representatives, and graduates from the Citizens’ Police Academy. A public reception to meet the pair is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. June 27 at City Hall, 8101 Ralston Road.
