All Buffalo fire mandatory evacuations have been lifted after firefighters reached 45 percent containment on the wildfire that consumed 91 acres of mountainous terrain with heavy timber two miles west of Silverthorne.

On Friday, firefighters will be mopping and hoping approaching rain storms help dose the fire burning in an area devastated by beetle kill.

Firefighters will remove hazardous trees around the fire’s perimeter where the threat to safety is minimal.

“Our firefighters are dealing with safety issues such as hazard trees and driving; we ask the public to remain clear of the fire area and allow our crews to perform their work,” said safety officer Brian Ayers.

Ayers warned area residents that with rain in the forecast and some fire retardant still on roads they should drive carefully. When fire retardant gets wet, roads get more slippery, he said.
