A 30-year-old man attending the Grand Junction-area  shot himself in the stomach Friday evening in what authorities believe may have been an accident.

The incident — which investigators say was isolated — prompted the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office to assure attendees of the four-day festival that “this is not an active shooter situation.”

“This incident occurred in the campground,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “… Law enforcement immediately responded to the incident and has the area and individuals involved in the incident contained at this time.”

The wounded man was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction.

The sheriff’s office reminded festival-goers that no weapons are allowed on the event’s premises — including campsites.
