Coordinated system for homeless in Boulder County promising, but housing still needed

Still considerable challenges for those on “bottom rung”

Early numbers from Boulder County’s new approach to helping adults experiencing homelessness show that it is successful, according to officials.

From November 2017 through May 2018, Homeless Solutions for Boulder County has screened 1,766 people in its new coordinated entry system. Of those, 234 people, or 13.3 percent of clients, have successfully exited the system.

“What we feel good about is the ability to provide services in a more systematic and successful way,” said Jim Adams-Berger, manager of strategic initiatives at Boulder County Community Services.

However, Adams-Berger, coordinated entry clients and a state expert all agree that Boulder County faces a clear challenge as it moves forward to help more adults get out of homelessness: affordable housing.
