While on a search for a parole absconder, a U.S. Marshal called Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and reported a terrible odor coming from the trunk of a car, authorities say.
As it turned out, a body discovered inside the trunk was that of Dean Clark Wallis, the missing parolee, according to Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for the sheriff’s department.
The marshal was looking for the missing parolee on Thursday when he noticed a bad odor coming from the trunk of a car parked at 3505 S. Nelson Circle.
The marshal then called 911 and reported what he found.
Jefferson County investigators obtained a search warrant and found the body that turned out to be that of Wallis.
Wallis had been reported missing in Lakewood on May 9. It’s unclear how long Wallis was in the trunk. Techmeyer said the cause of death has not been released.
At this time, the sheriff’s office does not have a suspect, he said.
Wallis was sentenced to 24 years in prison in 1996 following a conviction in Montrose County of first degree assault of a police officer or firefighter, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.
