A man arrested for attacking a man with a hatchet in unincorporated Jefferson County in 2024 took a deal in August that dropped an attempted murder charge.
Bradley Lindsey, 37, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault on Aug. 19, court records show. The plea deal dropped attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault — strangulation charges.
A 61-year-old man told Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies in November 2024 that Lindsey came into the home where he was living, hit him in the head with a hatchet four to five times and choked him until he passed out, according to an arrest affidavit. The man said he didn’t know Lindsey, but knew he lived nearby.
The owner of the home in the unincorporated town of Kittredge told deputies he let Lindsey, whom he didn’t know, into the home after Lindsey knocked on the door. Lindsey told the owner he planned to go downstairs and “take care of” the victim, who was a tenant in the home in the process of being evicted for not paying rent, the affidavit said.
The homeowner told deputies he didn’t hear any disturbance after Lindsey went downstairs, and the next thing he remembered was deputies coming to the home and arresting Lindsey.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were sent to the home after a 911 caller reported Lindsey walked up to him and said, “if you hear gunshots, call the cops,” before walking into a nearby home, the affidavit states.
Lindsey is set to be sentenced on Oct. 23.
