Railroad Avenue around Fairgrounds Park will be closed starting Monday while crews install a new bridge, widen and raise the road and complete additional flood recovery work.

Access to Fairgrounds Park will remain through the north parking lot, which also will be the access for the dog park, community gardens and Milner-Schwarz House, according to the city.

The $3.3 million Railroad Avenue Flood Recovery Project is expected to continue throughout the year with closures scheduled through Dec. 31, according to the city of Loveland website.

“It will ensure that Railroad Avenue is open during a (future) flood,” said Tom Hacker, the city’s public information officer.

The work, which will stretch along 2,200 feet of Railroad Avenue, will enhance the resilience of the road to a 50-year flood level instead of the current 10-year flood level, according to the city website.
