Adams County police fatally shot a person early Saturday morning after responding to a party in a vacant home, officials said.

Deputies arrived at the home at 7028 Lipan Street around 1:30 a.m. and were met with several vehicles speeding away from the scene, according to an Adams County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Officers began searching the area and found a car crash at West 70th Avenue and Broadway in Denver that caused them to stop to help, the sheriff’s office said.

People inside one of the vehicles took off on foot and pointed “a weapon” at a deputy. The deputy then shot and killed the person who drew their weapon.

Details about the victim and deputy involved were not available as of Saturday morning.

The Adams County Critical Incident team is investigating the situation.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
