A man who strangled his wife to death and left her body in the back seat of a car has been sentenced to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to second degree murder.

Jose Vallejo-Cano, 27, who was also convicted of second-degree assault, pleaded guilty in April, according to Ken Lane, spokesman for District Attorney Beth McCann.

On October 29, 2016, the body of 23-year-old Araceli Miranda was found in the back seat of a car in the 4800 block of Kingston Street, Lane wrote in a news release.

Concerned for her daughter’s safety, Miranda’s mother reported her missing earlier that day. The defendant had been arrested in October 2016 for assaulting Miranda and had in connection with the earlier assault, he said.

Vallejo-Cano was arrested after he was found hiding nearby, he wrote.
