Austin Gray, 22, sat semi-cross-legged on a chair inside Warrior Playground gym Tuesday afternoon, stretching out leg muscles pushed to their limit by a day of training at the gym’s makeshift “American Ninja Warrior†obstacle course.
Gray had gleefully ditched his shirt moments before to cool off, displaying three small scars on his stomach that create a triangle.
Gray made his television debut last week on “American Ninja Warrior,†during the Minneapolis Qualifiers episode. Gray competed on the television show that features athletes competing on an outsized obstacle course only 15 weeks after donating a kidney to a fellow Longmont High graduate, which is how he got the scars on his torso.
Gray practically strolled through the qualifying round, besting the floating steps, the ring jump and other obstacles in just more than two minutes. He wasn’t able to finish either the final obstacle — the 18-foot Mega Wall, where competitors who reached the top earned a $10,000 bonus — or the 14-foot-6-inch warped wall.
His time did qualify him to move on to the Minneapolis finals, however. The finals, where viewers will find out if Gray moved on to the national finals, were filmed in late May and will likely air in late August.
