When Denver-based Rose Namajunas beat the then-dominant Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 217 for the UFC women’s strawweight title, it could have argued that the former champion was just having an off day. When Jedrzejcyk was thoroughly beaten again in April, it was clear Namajunas was the real deal.

If Jedrzejczyk, still ranked No. 1 among UFC strawweight contenders, wants another shot at the champion, she has to on Saturday get past Colorado Springs-based fighter Tecia Torres, who has earned the nickname “The Tiny Tornado.”

But if Torres (10-2), ranked No. 5 in the division, pulls out a victory, she could find herself next in line to take on Namajunas and setting up an all-Colorado bout for the belt. A first for UFC.

So, who else could contend? No. 2 Jessica Andrade and No. 4 Karolina Kowalkiewicz are scheduled to face each other at September’s UFC 228 in Dallas. Surely the winner would move up in the queue, but that fight probably wouldn’t take place until early 2019.

However, from a marketing standpoint, a title bout between Torres and Namajunas to headline the 25th anniversary show in Denver in November would just make sense.
