Four communities in Colorado will share nearly $4 million in grant money awarded Friday by the Federal Transit Administration to purchase electric buses and charging stations.

The grants represent the state’s share of as part of its Low or No-Emission Grant program — money that went to fund 52 projects in 41 states.

In Colorado, the money was awarded to Eagle County Regional Transportation Authority ($1.3 million); Summit County ($1.2 million); Breckenridge ($1 million); and Estes Park ($403,000). The money, distributed by the Colorado Department of Transportation, will be earmarked for new electric buses and infrastructure.

In the case of Summit County, the new buses will replace an aging fleet. Eligible projects under the FTA’s program include those that feature buses powered by modern systems such as hybrid or battery electric engines.
