Loveland-based Lightning Systems announced Thursday that it has developed a new all-electric power train for low-cab-forward work trucks.
New York-based Zeem Solutions, a commercial electric vehicle service provider for fleet operators, has placed an order for 50 of the systems, which will be installed in Cheverolet 6500XD Low Cab Forward trucks, according to a news release from Lightning Systems.
The heavy-duty battery-electric power train for trucks of 19,500 to 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight will have an all-electric range of 110 miles, the release said. Orders are being accepted now for delivery beginning in the fourth quarter of 2018.
The system can be installed in new or used trucks, replacing the need for a diesel engine.
Lightning Systems already has its electric power train in the Ford Transit van and city buses.
