An Aurora man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the 2016 drunk driving death of 28-year-old Ananiece Foshee.
Maurice Palmer, 32, pleaded guilty in April to one count of vehicular homicide DUI. The 10-year sentence is the maximum allowed under Palmer’s plea agreement.
The deadly accident occurred July 24, 2016, at the intersection of South Chambers Road and Crestline Avenue.
Palmer and Foshee spent the night smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol at a bowling alley in Aurora. Later that night, police found Palmer’s SUV slammed into a light pole, ejecting both people from the car.
Foshee died in the accident and Palmer was treated for injuries at a hospital.
Palmer was reportedly driving 80 mph in a 40 mph zone. He had a blood-alcohol content of 0.133, nearly twice the legal limit.
The District Attorney’s office requested the maximum 10-year sentence due to Palmer’s history of driving offenses. Palmer’s drivers license was revoked in 2014 because of his status as a “habitual traffic offender” — defined as at least three major traffic offenses within a seven-year period.
George Brauchler, Attorney General for the 18th Judicial District — which encompasses Arapahoe and surrounding counties — said: “Overnight, we could end this scourge on our roads from which there is no protection for our families. Until drunk and high drivers put the safety of our community over their short-sighted interests, our office will continue to seek prison for the deaths they cause.”
Brauchler, a Republican, is currently running for Attorney General against Democrat Phil Weiser.
