Strong chance for stormy weather in Denver Thursday afternoon

Sunshine on tap for the weekend with temperatures rising next week

Thunderstorms and rain showers are expected in the Denver metro area Thursday afternoon, forecasters say.

After 1 p.m., there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 76 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

It could also rain between midnight and 4 a.m. on Friday, according to the forecast.

The chance for rain greatly diminishes Friday. It will be mostly sunny with a high temperature near 80 degrees.

A period of sunny days is ahead beginning this weekend.

Daily high temperatures will increase from the lower 80s on Saturday to near 90 degrees by next Wednesday.
