A Westminster police officer was injured Thursday in a struggle with a Mountain Range High School student who was armed with a knife.

The incident happened at about 11:15 a.m. when police were notified that a male student may have been armed on campus, 12500 Huron St., according to a news release.

School resource officers contacted the student inside the school and he was non-compliant and fought with officers, police said. After a struggle, officers found a knife on the student.

One officer was treated for injuries at a local hospital. The student was taken into custody and was being medically evaluated, police said.

During the altercation, the school was put on a temporary “hold” status, students and teachers had to remain in place. Police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the school.

An investigation is ongoing.
