The city of Longmont will be making changes to the intersection of Alpine Street and Mountain View Avenue, near Skyline High School, after a transportation report identified it as a high crash area.

A crash that sent a high school girl to the hospital with broken bones on Thursday also prompted concern from people on social media.

The city has improved the intersection over the years, including curb extensions, marked crosswalks and additional signs, according to Tyler Stamey, the transportation engineering administrator for Longmont.

“That said, we just recently finished our (report) and did identify this intersection as a high crash intersection,” he said. “So it is one we’ll be looking at.”

Stamey said his department will have to continue studying the area and analyzing crash patterns to determine what solution is best. A traffic signal or four-way stop signs would both be considered if they are appropriate, he said.
