A child injured in an ATV crash in a remote desert area outside of Grand Junction on Wednesday was flown by helicopter to a local hospital.

Firefighters, police and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident at about 4:15 p.m., according to a fire department news release.

First responders initially had difficulty finding the accident scene and the victim because of limited access and rough terrain. People with off-road vehicles helped first responders in the search and the injured child was found.
