Up to an inch of snow is expected in Denver on Wednesday morning, while the mountains could get anywhere from 3 to 8 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.
The chance of snow will increase through the morning in Denver, where there is patchy fog. The low temperature was at 31 degrees at Denver International Airport, the official measuring location for Denver at 6 a.m.
A foot of snow could fall above the timberline in the mountains, according to Kari Bowen, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Boulder.
“We are going to have a winter weather advisory for the mountains that goes until 9 p.m.,” Bowen said. Light snow will pick up until between an inch and two inches of snow fall in ski areas, she said.
Light freezing drizzle began falling early Wednesday morning in the foothills, including in Boulder. Commuters should be cautious because the roads could be very slippery, Bowen said.
The freeze warning in Denver lasts until about 10 a.m. The warmest it will get in Denver on Wednesday will be around 40 degrees.
Wednesday night, the low will drop to around 30 degrees, the NWS says.

Afternoon rain is possible on Thursday, when temperatures will start to rebound in Denver. The high temperature will be around 46 degrees. The chance for rain increases Thursday night.
By Friday, it will be mostly sunny and the high will reach the upper 50s, the NWS says.
Rain is possible on Saturday afternoon. Snow could start falling by the evening. The low temperature will be around 23 degrees.
Snow showers are expected Sunday morning. The high temperature could reach 51 degrees, possibly during the Denver Broncos’ game against the Los Angeles Rams.
