Eldorado Canyon State Park will require reservations for weekend visitors sometime this summer. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is calling the system a pilot test program that will be evaluated after the summer of 2023 to determine whether to make it permanent.

A fallen climber and three stranded hikers all were rescued Saturday in Eldorado Canyon State Park.

According to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Boulder County Dispatch got a call about a stranded and injured climber near the fifth pitch of Yellow Spur in the park. Two men had been climbing the formation when one of them fell. His fall was arrested by his partner with their rope, but he sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, the release states.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Matthew Sanderson said Saturday that the man fell about 30 feet but was wearing a helmet. Sanderson said the man was conscious and breathing.

Per radio scanner traffic, rescuers reached the man, who sustained a head injury, at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Rocky Mountain Fire Authority, Eldora Canyon State Park, Alpine Rescue Team and Boulder County Sheriff’s Emergency Services responded. Both men were lowered to the ground and were able to walk out of the canyon on their own, the release states.
